Myoko Backcountry Ski School is proud to be one of the original centers of telemark ski instruction in Japan. We have a full range of instruction available by our experienced instructors, from beginning on-piste courses to challenging backcountry tours.

We are very pleased to provide lessons in English for individuals and groups, and can also assist in accommodations in Myoko through our family of affiliated hotels. If you don't see what you want, please call us! We would be pleased to arrange for special lessons or tours, corporate sessions, and more.

On-Piste Group Lessons

Lessons for all levels. Private lessons available.

Daily from Saturday, December 16, 2006. Tours continue into May.

Off-Piste Courses

One-day study/tours in the beautiful Myoko backcountry--a great first experience off of the groomed, for intermediates and above.

Lessons include a regular schedule of snow hiking (great for beginning telemarkers), one-day tour experience and introductory backcountry lessons.

Contact MBSS for equipment needed (rental is available for most items--even large boots!).

Guided Tours

Last year was a great year for tours--almost too much snow at times! It was also our first season with a flexible tour schedule; we look at the weather, snow conditions, and our guests' interests and abilities before we fix the day's destination. We're are planning, as always, to start the season with a multi-day trip to Tateyama in November, followed by daily one-day tours throughout the season, before closing the season with a Golden Week tour to nearby Mt. Hiuchi and a May trip to somewhere good--perhaps Hakuba (great in spring 2005 and 2006!), Tateyama (even better!). Always great groups and fantastic settings for some real skiing.
