Some recommended hotels and restaurant

Some of the MBSS owneers, and many of our friends in the Myoko telemark ski community, are also owners and operators of local pension hotels, as well as Myoko's best izakaya, or Japanese pub. They know not only where to ski, but local history, attractions, good food, and more! We suggest starting here if you're looking for a place to stay, or a place to enjoy a taste of Niigata's best saké and foods. (If no English-language link is available through the websites listed below, just drop a note to mbss@myokokogen.org, and we'll be happy to contact them for you.)

Akakura Yours Inn Lodge Ohno

Akakura Yours Inn
(0255)87-2427
The hotel of choice for many long-term telemarkers (the Telemarkers' Room is a great, affordable accommodation, especially for lone travelers). Natural onsen (hot spring), and excellent cuisine. Enjoy a video, relaxing around the fire, or a long, long chat into the night with the gregarious owner....

Lodge Ohno
(0255)87-2037
It's just a two-minute walk from the friendly, family-run Lodge to the Akakura Kanko Ski Resort. The warm, raised fireplace area is a great place to talk abut the day's tour, while your host family is a fixture in the local racing and instruction world. Delicious saké and the house Corgi Henry await you!
Pension Poco a Poco Pension René Char

Pension Poco a Poco
(0255)87-2191
The pension/home of one of our founders, the pension is pretty much open exclusively for our guests.

Pension René Char
(0255)87-3712
The owner is known for heading into the country with a camera in one hand (but will it be safe?). Set below the ski area in a beautiful wooded area, your hosts will delivery you daily to and from the ski areas.
Pension Mont Cervin Izakaya Pontaro

Pension Mont Cervin
(0255)87-3143
A family pension, set in a quiet oak forest. The host is a snowshoe guide, and a well-known local mountaineering figure. Just call for a pickup from Myokokogen Station; individual guests also welcome (not that common in Japan!).

Izakaya Pontaro
(0255)87-3662
For the body tired out after a day of skiing, Pontaro offers the best saké of Niigata (and Niigata is known for excellent saké). Sit at the raised irori—a charcoal-fire around which a group can sit and warm up—enjoy some delicious specialties while the snow falls and falls and falls....
